However, research has uncovered numerous additional “unnumbered” exhibitions that have been added below, and yet more may remain to be uncovered. For many decades exhibitions were listed in numerical order on a “Master Running List,” which served as the basis for this list. In addition to the title and date range each exhibition has a number assigned by the Museum, beginning with exhibition #1, Cézanne, Gauguin, Seurat, Van Gogh. The following is a chronological record of exhibitions held at The Museum of Modern Art since its opening in November 1929.
